FAIREST OF THEM ALL

FAIREST OF THEM ALL

Gala Season in New York, is almost like it’s own holiday. I’ll confess, I love going to parties and wearing gowns. It’s purely the fashion girl in me, but also the storyteller. For example, I will never be the girl who shows up to a party in a black sheath column dress, with a simple blowout, a la Hailey Bieber at the Met Gala. Don’t get me wrong, she looked gorgeous in that black YSL, but for me, I think it’s a time to have fun. To experiment. To tell a story. I loved this Prabal Gurung Gown from two years ago. It was suitably dramatic and gave off very Maleficent vibes. I ended up wearing this out with a very different makeup look, hair more slicked back and a big dramatic smoky eye, but I like how when I shot this, it felt a little bit more snow white than evil queen. The hair and make was much less understated and gave it more of a fairytale out of time feel. Again, if you’re able to attend parties like these, why aren’t you having fun with it? Where are you supposed to wear fashion? I think it begs a bigger question of who gets to wear things like that, and quite honestly it’s one of the reasons we live in New York, you can get away with wearing something like that. I mean, if you can’t wear it here, you can’t wear it anywhere, right?
